用如火如荼来形容佛山LED照明产业一点都不过分，但不可否认的是，佛山LED照明是产业热、市场冷。为什么会出现这样的尴尬呢?这是因为，以目前的技术做大功率LED照明灯具与现有高效光源相比并没有明显的节能优势，而初次投入成本却高的多。大电流在提升光效的同时也大量转变成了热能，如果散热处理不好又会使LED寿命大幅降低，用散热器又增加成本和体积，使LED光源的优势消失。所以说，一切都是达不到照明市场要求的LED技术惹得祸。　　目前LED封装成本占到50%，要想降低LED总体成本，我们就必须选择更合适的封装结构，所以改变现有的封装结构，实现合理的封装成本，将是LED照明被市场接受的最有效、最直接的途经。当然，LED芯片随工艺、出货量增加、采用更大尺寸晶圆制作工艺，也在不断的降低成本，近年来每年在以20%速度降低中，如果能把目前的封装成本从占总成本的50%降低到20%～30%，LED照明的应用会上到一个新数量级市场规模。　　让成本下降、使技术成熟是整个产业链的事。LED产业链的上、中、下游分别为外延材料与芯片加工、产品器件与模块封装、显示与照明应用。　　 LED外延片与芯片约占行业70%的利润，LED封装约占10%～20%，LED应用约占10%～20%。统计显示，我国半导体照明生产企业超过3000家，其中70%集中于产业的下游，国产LED外延材料、芯片以中低档为主，80%以上的功率型LED芯片、器件依赖进口。　　近年来，政府以撒胡椒面的方式兴建了若干LED照明产业基地，但中国的LED产业热仍是以70%的国人争夺LED的10%～20%利润份额为代价的。这就意味着，掌控LED核心技术的国外公司若不急于拉低LED成本，扎堆LED下游的佛山LED业者只能以牺牲自己的利润去实现低价而让市场热起来，但没有技术支撑的下游产品，就算价格再便宜，又有多少人敢用呢。
